OCTAGONAL SHAPED REAL ESTATE SIGNS GIVE AGENTS AN EXTRA ANGLE

victor | May 31, 2010 | Comments (0)

Marketing executives everywhere realize that there is no such thing as enough, or even too much exposure when it comes to advertising brands and selling products .  These same workers also know that cheap , or better yet free, advertising cannot be beat .  Sure , there are big companies in existence with the means to spend whatever is necessary to splash the company motto across The Masters and the World Series , but for those of us without that ability , a little creativity is necessary in keeping costs down all the while gaining maximum exposure and thus, business.

Tell me how… I BEG YOU !!!

I will…but first, let me tell you a story.  A few days ago I was in my automobile driving to my office when my eyes were unknowingly drawn away from the street towards the front yard of a house that I pass by all the time .  I see this house every day , but not once have I actually observed any detail about the house.  I could not even tell you the color of the house (I’ve since noticed that it’s yellow) or whether it’s made of brick or wood paneling (wood paneling).  Must be something about the house being located on a busy boulevard ; or, you could make the argument that it’s just an ordinary house with no exciting features .  Either way, for some reason, on this one particular day, my eyes were drawn towards this yellow house made of wood paneling like a magnet .  Something was different, something new that grabbed my attention without even asking me for permission.  A metal sign had been placed in the yard with a name, a phone number and the words “For Sale.”

Who cares ?  Real estate “For Sale” signs are all over the place these days !

Correct , but in my own defense, there are other houses on the same block that have metal “For Sale” signs in the yard and I never noticed any of those houses prior to this either!  Hmm…very peculiar .  There are several houses with metal “For Sale” signs in the yards on a busy street that I motor down everyday; and yet, for some reason, on this one particular day, and everyday since for that matter, my eyes are somehow immediately drawn towards this one same yellow house with the wood paneling.

Fill me in already!  What is going on ?

The truth is, there really is not one single thing entirely off-the-wall unique about the house.  The secret, amigos , is in the shape of the business sign on the lawn .  The custom sign is in the shape of an octagon, just like a STOP SIGN!

Wow, that’s awesome !  Wait, why is that so neat ?

Since we are so accustomed to seeing the one-of-a-kind shape of a stop sign while we are driving , our brains mechanically associate that shape, the octagon, with the action of stopping.  So, when I was driving down the same road I always use to get to work and saw that eight sided custom sign out of my peripheral vision , my attention was drawn to that custom metal sign without me even having to think about it.  Once the sign had my attention, I then noticed not only that the metal sign was actually a “For Sale” sign, but also that the sign was promoting a yellow, wooden house.

Now I know what you mean!

So you see, advertising does not have to be costly to be efficient.  By incorporating a head game into his advertising method, this real estate practicioner was able to draw attention to the home he is trying to sell without hiring a marketing firm and without going broke .  The man simply questioned the status quo of real estate promotion , and, with a bit of creative thinking, found a way to make his listing stand out more so than others.  Oh, and for the record , I still couldn’t tell you about any of the other homes that are available for purchase on that street .

Skin Care Tips For Men

alex | May 30, 2010 | Comments (0)

Be true to your skin – Skin is your body’s largest organ and adapts very well to its rapidly changing environment. Knowing your skin type (skin you would have under ideal environmental conditions) is easily the first big step to choosing the products that meet your unique requirements. If you have sensitive skin cheaper shaving creams, fragrances, perfumed soaps, and alcohol based products will irritate the skin. Remember to always read the labels on new products (before purchasing them) to help select a product that suits your skins needs.

Avoid over exposure to the sun – Sun damage leads to hyper pigmentation (brown spots) which can develop into serious skin disease. Excessive exposure can also exaggerate and thicken fine lines. If you ensure you use an SPF 20 or even higher on any exposed skin, paying particular attention to your face when you are outside. Don’t forget about your lips! Ideally you need a balm that has an SPF of at least 15. Peppermint oil has a nice feel and keeps the lips looking moist.

Everything must be done in moderation – remember that if we have too much of anything it’s not always good for us. If you can try and avoid excessive smoking, alcohol, stress and fatigue. All of these factors together can certainly lead to premature aging and they also decrease your facial circulation which will make you look older than you are.

Go natural – Cleansing skin care products should be as chemical-free as possible. One of my favourites is the Elemis Deep Cleanse Facial wash, which I find satisfying. Ensure that you never use deodorant soaps on your face. They cleanse with harsh ingredients and leave a detergent film behind. This could well act as an irritant to your skin and clog up your pores. A good scrub is essential for healthy clean skin. It will remove dead cells and smooth the surface of your face. Ensure when you do scrub you don’t do it too vigorously as you need to make sure you don’t cause any damage to your skin. Stay away from any scrubs that contain any rough elements like ground bits of nut and even seed extracts. They could possibly tear and do damage to the skin. A good scrub will leave you feeling invigorated and it certainly can’t do any harm. After this, you should consider using a moisturizer such as Gatineau Aquamemory Moisturiser, which helps to reduce the tell-tale signs of aging.

Dummies Guide To Surfing

The Pop Up

Learning to surf is like learning any other skill. You need the right equipment, some good instruction and plenty of practice.

The first thing you will need is the right surfboard. A common mistake that many make is trying to learn to surf on a board that is too short. While professional surfers might choose a short board for learning it is recommended that you choose a larger board.

Choose a surfboard that is at least 9 feet long. Choose a board that is both wide and thick for stability and buoyancy. You might like to choose a board that has a soft-top or a foam deck as these are far more forgiving when you are learning.

Then you will need some suitable swimwear. Remember that you are going to be spending prolonged periods of time in the sea so, if it’s cold where you are, you will want to be wearing a wetsuit. If the sea is warm enough you will be able to get away with a nice pair of funky board shorts or a bikini will be OK.

Once you have the right gear its now time to get used to your board on dry land. The key move to master is called the ‘pop-up’. This is where you quickly lift yourself into an upright position from being face down on the board.

Start by laying your board on the beach, deck side upwards, and lie down on the board with your head about one third of the board’s length from the front. This is the position you will adopt when paddling out through the waves. Be sure to apply enough sun protection to your back, or wear a t-shirt to protect your chest from getting a rash.

Grab the board on either side at about shoulder level then lift yourself up to a crouching position with your feet level with your hands. You should now be in a crouching postion with both hands grasping the board, knees bent and feet parallel with your hands. You are now ready to stand upright.

Repeat this maneuver on dry land until you are totally confident, then hit the water. Once you are confident with your technique on dry land its time to hit the water, so paddle out to beyond where the waves are breaking and then turn to face the shore. Begin to paddle toward the shore ahead of a wave then you should feel the wave lift and then push your board forward, then try your pop up move.

Mastering this move will take a lot of practice but, by the end of the first day, you should have it under your belt.

Have You Ever Been Diving?

alex | May 30, 2010 | Comments (0)

Many people seem to think that going on one of those diving holidays is really a bit of a waste of time but this I do not think does have to be the case at all and I think it is a great idea because people to learn a brand new skill that they have never had before. Here are a few reasons why diving really could be the thing for you.

Nature

Most people will have seen things like monkeys and other animals such as this but you have not seen the greatest nature out there until you have been under the sea and have had a look at some of the amazing animals that can be found there. To actually get close enough to touch many creatures such as fish and sharks is a truly amazing experience and one that you should at least think about taking on.

Diving Is Good For You

If you are getting the right kind of training before you go diving then you will find it to be very good for you and it really does keep you fit if you do it often enough. You are doing something that is very relaxing for you when you dive down but something that is also very challenging indeed so make sure you are keeping fit outside of the water or you will start to struggle.

Once you start to get a bit more confident you can do more high risk things like go out for a bit of shark diving and this will really start to get your adrenaline going which is great! Spotting sharks is a fantastic thing to do and one of my personal favourite destinations to do this in is actually Maldives diving because I always find I am spotting sharks in this area.

So there you have it, if diving is something you haven’t tried then get out there and give it a go!
